Write Your MLM Marketing Plan
Managing an MLM business allows you to be your own boss. You get to set your own working hours, and work towards your own success. MLM is widely considered a reliable work from home option. More accurately a successful MLM manager has a ‘work from anywhere’ business! Steady growth and success starts with a solid strategy. The best way to get started is a simple but effective marketing plan.
Big Success in the MLM Business Arena
Your success with an MLM business depends on your ability to win hearts and minds and engage with wide groups of people. Your knowledge and passion for the value and benefits of the products your network will be selling, plus incentives, offers and packages, should all form part of how you energise your network and how you work with them. You will be earning commission from the success of your network’s sales, so you need to feel confident with direct selling and promoting yourself and your brand with your passion, knowledge and your energy. Striking the right balance between promotion and network management, is the recipe for big success in the MLM business arena. In theory, anyone can adopt an MLM business strategy. We want to show you how to form the core of a robust and rewarding MLM business when you write your MLM marketing plan.
How to Write Your MLM Marketing Plan
A simple but effective marketing plan will be one of your most powerful assets as an MLM business owner. Keep it simple so that you can adopt your strategy as part of your daily, professional mantra. Despite being such a valuable asset to your MLM business, your MLM marketing plan should be a ‘working document’, which means it can and should be regularly revised. Here’s how to write your MLM marketing plan to get you started.
Make a List
Managing an MLM business relies heavily on your networking skills, if you want to get serious about generating income you need to engage fully with what motivates your network. Don’t worry if you do not already have an active and engaged client list, especially if you are just starting out on your MLM journey. Start to write your MLM marketing plan by making a list of people you know and dividing it into categories. You will instantly know some definite yes’s and definite no’s. But there will always be a much wider middle ground that you can work with. Divide your list into potential customers and potential sign ups. Start by focussing on those two categories.
Be Authentic
Most MLM brands will give you all the guiding steps to build your business. Usually a total how-to guide and a helping hand from your up-line manager. However it is always best if your audience feels certain that they are hearing directly from you, so take your time getting familiar with your own MLM story and how you want to communicate that. Build this in when you write your MLM marketing plan? Your audience wants to identify with you. Start by telling your audience how you got here. Why are you doing this? Keep your story grounded in what they already know about you. What was the switch? What made you believe in this brand? Maybe it was a star product. Maybe it was one turn around moment. Take them on your journey. And keep it real. Your number one focus is to be authentic. You will want to evolve with it over the course of time. Check out our associate Frazer Brooks brilliant book I Dare You which explains how to build your authentic multi level marketing with social media. He sets a great example of how to present your own authentic MLM story.
Profile
Make a profile of the buying behavior of your contact list when you write your MLM marketing plan. Define the demographics of your target list in terms of their personal buying habits. Think about how and when they buy their products and how your brand can appeal to those habits. Think about whether they can best be reached online or via traditional advertising and fit with that. Estimate the approximate size of their network of friends and associates, and what elements of your MLM brand would be most appealing. Plan out your ways of communicating with each demographic and how to be targeted with your message.
Research
Do your research. How and where are others representing your brand? Look up your competitors. Get to know your industry sector. Make sure you thoroughly know your brand and your product line. A good customer will have good questions. When you join an MLM brand a lot of the hard work is done for you, so look to your brand for a starting point when you write your MLM marketing plan and then make it your own. Pick out the various selling points that will appeal your target demographics and learn those off by heart. These should be your unique selling points (USP). Think about how this fits in with your target audience and their lifestyle. How can you represent this within your own lifestyle?
Create Value
Your role is to give your products value for your audience. Tell them all about the products you are selling. Don’t be afraid to give lots of detail. Remember you are probably trying to tempt customers away from another brand, and possibly a routine of convenience. So you need to sell the special properties of your brand and make buying them as easy as pie. So start simply and confidently. Show what they can do. And be real and relatable. You want your audience to see what you are saying and think “that’s me!”
Road Map
Set yourself some goals. It’s good to have ambition, but give yourself some simple steps to achieve when you first write your MLM marketing plan. Perhaps 100 followers on social media and ten customers. Be realistic and start small and simple. Think about what resources you already have. This could be people in your existing network or even your own skills. Turn these to your immediate advantage. Count social media experience here too. Make separate pages for your MLM business so you are not diluting your marketing activities with your personal life. Write yourself a process for your selling and communications. Developing a network of other MLM recruits at a level below you, aka your “downline” can be a numbers game. Don’t be put off if you find yourself pitching to as many as 100 people before you hook one enthusiastic distributor or customer. Just one distributor in your downline, exponentially increases your likelihood of adding more distributors and customers. So keep that steady growth in mind and keep going.
Promote
Strategise how to spread the word. Word-of-mouth is very often the strongest form of marketing, because it comes with trust built-in. Initially this will be yourself. Attracting customers will be all about personal selling. This is your core practice. Nail what your product is. Not a specific product in your range, but how you would describe exactly what you are selling. Decide on your personal core message and be consistent. Put this at the heart when you write your MLM marketing plan. Think about how to represent that in all of your content. Try writing out what you are selling with a bit of detail and think about how to make that info short and punchy so you can reference it quickly in all of your promotions. This could be something like a “healthy lifestyle for busy professionals”. You may have a few variations, so pick a core focus and tweak it for your audience demographics. Next think about the augmented experience for your audience. This could be enhanced well-being, better knowledge of health products or even joining your client network. Remember to get your network working for you by always reminding them to tell a friend, comment or leave you a review. Every little helps.
